AI in Education

The AI in Education Professional Learning Project was a cross-program initiative of the CDE Foundation that brought together educators, education leaders, labor partners, and other stakeholders to explore the role of artificial intelligence across education. Through collaborative inquiry, this project informed the development of the AI Integration Continuum, the Labor-Management Approach to Co-Designing AI in Education, and other field-informed resources. This collection supports education systems in moving from AI exploration to implementation with practical tools that promote effective, equitable, and human-centered AI integration.

VAPA and Proposition 28

California’s Proposition 28 is driving a major expansion of arts education, creating thousands of new teaching roles and an urgent need for qualified VAPA educators. Residency and apprenticeship programs offer practice-based, “earn while you learn” pathways that recruit and prepare diverse candidates, including second-career artists and local talent. This collection supports institutions interested in understanding Proposition 28 and integrating residency and apprenticeship models into their arts education programs, providing scalable solutions to build a sustainable educator workforce.

Residency Foundations

Residency Foundations is designed for prospective partnerships, new residency programs, and existing programs that are creating new partnerships or making significant revisions. The module guides teams through the essential planning and design processes needed to build a strong residency program, including partnership development, vision setting, program design, recruitment strategies, financial sustainability, and implementation planning. Through a series of content-specific learning sessions and workbook activities, participants develop the foundational structures, agreements, and systems necessary to launch or strengthen a residency program. The module helps partners establish a shared understanding of the residency model and align their program design with local needs and goals.

Organizational Sustainability

The Organizational Sustainability for Continuity framework helps educator residency programs think about sustainability as more than funding alone. It emphasizes that long-term success requires residency programs to be financially self-reliant, committed to continuous improvement, and supported by strong systems rather than individual champions. The framework is organized around three interconnected pillars: Institutional Sustainability (the structures, staffing, planning, and decision-making processes that support the program), Financial Sustainability (the ability to identify and leverage diverse funding sources inside and outside the partnership), and Engagement Sustainability (the ongoing commitment and participation of key stakeholders across organizations). Through reflection and planning questions, the framework helps residency partners assess their current level of sustainability and identify next steps for strengthening program continuity, resilience, and long-term impact.
